The ways of seeing

Our children are our light. Our sunshine. Sometimes, though, in the midst of a busy day or influenced by a society which doesn’t know any better, the way we see our children becomes fuzzy. Warped. Confused. We overlook their beauty. We miss their silver lining. We are blinded by their sunlight.

The Ways of Seeing

Are our babies difficult,
Or are they sensitive to stimulation?

Are our babies testing us,
Or do they need us?

Are our babies terrible sleepers,
Or do they love to smell their mother’s breast as they drift off to sleep?

Are our children unruly,
Or are they spirited?

Are our children bossy,
Or do they know what they want?

Are our children manipulative,
Or are we not responding to their needs?

Are our children aggressive,
Or are they frustrated?

Are our children wild,
Or are they bursting with energy?

Are our children misbehaved,
Or do they need extra cuddles?

Are our children shy,
Or are they observant?

The way we see our children depends on our moods, our schedules and how we think others see them.

They way we see our children becomes etched onto their little hearts, hot black ink and blazing. They wear our words for them like tattoos. The labels we use are scars that never fade.

Nourish those little hearts with tenderness. Marvel at their beauty. Bask in their sunshine.
